DEGREES

ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE (A.A.S.)

The Associate of Applied Science Degree is a technical degree designed to prepare the student in a specific occupational area.  Persons receiving the AAS normally enter directly into employment in the area of specialization.  The AAS is a terminal degree; therefore, it is not designed to transfer to a four-year institution.

ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREE (A.S.) - TRANSFER DEGREE

The Associate of Science Degree is designed for students who wish to complete the first two years of a baccalaureate degree and transfer to a senior institution.  The coursework for this degree provides a broad general education component and a concentration in one of these areas:

 

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS DEGREE (A.A.) - TRANSFER DEGREE

The Associate of Arts Degree is designed for students who wish to complete the first two years of a baccalaureate degree and transfer to a senior institution.  The Associate of Arts Degree requires successful completion of 60 credit hours with a minimum cumulative 2.00 GPA including the completion of the General Education Requirements.

 

Students planning to complete graduation requirements at the end of any given semester will be required to file an application for graduation with the Registrar's Office no later than the end of the 6th week of that semester.

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN TEACHING DEGREE (A.A.T.) - TRANSFER DEGREE

The Associate of Arts in Teaching is designed for students who are interested in transferring to a senior institution and completing a Bachelor's degree in Teaching.  This degree will transfer to any four year institution in the state of Arkansas.  Students seeking the A.A.T. gain the foundational knowledge and field experiences needed to work with children in grades kindergarten through sixth.  Students completing this degree will also receive the required general education coursework required of other institutions.  To receive this Associate's degree, students must earn a grade of "C" or better in English Composition I, English Composition II, and Quantitative Reasoning OR College Algebra.

NOTE:  Completing the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree at ANC does not guarantee admission to teacher education programs at four-year receiving institutions.  Students planning to transfer to other colleges and universities should contact the transfer institution in advance regarding degree and admission requirements for transfer into their Bachelor's degree education program.

ASSOCIATE OF GENERAL STUDIES DEGREE (A.G.S.) - TRANSFER DEGREE

The Associate of General Studies Degree is designed to provide flexibility to students whose needs cannot be met by an existing degree.  This program includes both fully transferrable courses as well as individual courses which may fulfill requirements for transfer toward a baccalaureate degree, direct employment, or educational enrichment.  Students select an area of concentration based upon their interests: Pre-Allied Health, Fine Arts/Performing Arts, Humanities/Social Sciences, Math/Science, and Computer Technologies.

CERTIFICATES

 

CERTIFICATE OF GENERAL STUDIES

The Certificate of General Studies is designed to recognize successful completion of 31-32 hours of specified general education core courses.  Students pursuing the Certificate of General Studies must satisfy all assessment, remediation, and prerequisite course requirements. Developmental coursework must be used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill certificate requirements.

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES

Technical certificates are available in certain technical areas.  A Technical Certificate requires 24 to 75 credit hours of course work for completion depending on the course of study.

CERTIFICATES OF PROFICIENCY

The Certificate of Proficiency is awarded to students who have demonstrated mastery of skills and knowledge against specified performance standards in a specific area or discipline.  The Certificate of Proficiency requires between 7-18 hours of course work for completion depending upon the area of study.
