ASSOCIATE DEGREES

  • The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree will be awarded to students who successfully complete a program of collegiate level work which is primarily designed for direct employment. The program must include a minimum of 15 semester credit hours of general education courses in English/writing, mathematics, social sciences, and computer applications/fundamentals. A minimum of 30-36 semester hours must be in a technical area. An additional component of the program of study should be a technical core of support courses from other related technical disciplines. The curriculum must require demonstrated mastery of skills and knowledge against specified performance standards in a specific area or discipline. Remedial/developmental education courses must be used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements.

    2 A.A.S. Degrees:

    • ANC offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing. The registered nursing program is approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Arkansas Northeastern College located in Blytheville, Arkansas, is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) 3390 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 1400 Atlanta, GA. 30326, (404) 975-5000. The most recent accreditation decision made by the ACEN Board of Commissioners for the Associate Degree nursing program is Initial Accreditation. One traditional class is admitted annually in the fall semester, with the LPN to RN Students accepted into the program joining the class in January of the Spring Semester each year. Throughout the program, general education courses and nursing courses are combined with clinical lab simulation along with client care in clinical settings in hospitals and health care agencies in the area.

      Students will be required to complete standardized tests throughout the nursing curriculum and to earn acceptable scores on such examinations to progress through the curriculum. In the last semester of the nursing curriculum, students will be required to earn a satisfactory score on a comprehensive exam. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is granted the Associate of Applied Science Degree and may be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Persons convicted of a crime may not be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN for licensure. See the program director for details. Admission to ANC does not guarantee admission to the nursing program. Traditional students and LPN to RN students must meet or exceed the minimal required score on the Nursing entrance exam (Refer to the Associate Degree Nursing Information guidelines), have a minimum grade point average of 2.0, and successfully complete all prerequisite courses to meet minimal admission requirements. A grade of “C” or above is required in all academic courses required for the nursing degree. The Nursing Department has a selective admission policy and criteria. Students are referred to the Associate Degree Nursing Information Guidelines or should contact the Nursing and Allied Health Advising Specialist concerning admission, selection criteria, and graduation requirements.

    • ANC offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paramedic. The Paramedic Program is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). The program also meets the requirements of the Arkansas Department of Health, Section of Emergency Medical Services. The ANC general education courses may be taken prior to or after completion of the Paramedic courses. These courses prepare students to pursue the bachelor’s degree and to assist graduates with job promotions and leadership roles in the EMS profession. Students must apply and be selected into the ANC Paramedic Program before enrolling in the required courses in sequence as scheduled. These courses include a combination of hybrid courses (classroom and on-line), didactic, clinical, and field experiences to provide the Paramedic student with the diversity of knowledge necessary to function effectively as a professional provider of advanced life support outside of the hospital environment. Students wishing to apply to the Paramedic Program should discuss their career objectives with the Nursing and Allied Health Advisor to ensure this is the appropriate program to meet their career goals. TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES

  • This 10.5-month Technical Certificate in Dental Assisting Technology is designed to train dental assisting students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the technical duties in all areas of the modern dental office. The Dental Assisting Technology program is based on a science-oriented program of study and skill development offered at the post-secondary level that requires critical thinking, psychomotor skills, and ethical reasoning. The program consists of formal training needed to assist the dentist in the dental operatory, the laboratory, and the dental business office. Upon successful program completion, students are eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board certification exam and to apply for registration with the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners. Students must meet the minimum required admissions scores noted. All recommended Academic Strengthening (College Prep) courses must be completed prior to admission into the program. Students wishing to enter this program should discuss their career objectives with an advisor to ensure this is the appropriate track for them.

     

    ANC Dental Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the by the United States Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation can be contacted at 312-440-4653 or at 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611. The Commission’s web address is: https://coda.ada.org/ The Program is also approved by the Arkansas State Dental Examiners Board.

     

    Program applicants must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or have earned a GED. Students are admitted to the Dental Assisting Program based on selective admission criteria. Refer to Dental Assisting Information Guidelines located on the ANC Allied Health page.

     

    This program of study includes special program fees beyond current tuition and college fees.

  • The 12-month Paramedic Technical Certificate Program provides education and training to EMT’s in advanced pre-hospital care.   • The technical certificate in Practical Nursing (PN) is a ten and one-half (10.5) month program approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing and prepares individuals for the practice of Licensed Practical Nursing. This program integrates clinical experience with classroom theory. Students obtain clinical experience in acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, doctor’s offices, and public schools, etc. The PN Program is offered each year beginning in August. Students wishing to enter this program should discuss their career objectives with an advisor to ensure this is the appropriate program for them. The Practical Nursing Program has selective admission criteria. Students must meet or exceed the minimal required score on the Nursing entrance exam (Refer to the Practical Nursing Information Guidelines) and have a minimal grade point average of 2.0 on all college or prerequisite courses to meet minimal admission requirements. A grade of “C” or above is required in all academic courses required for the Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing. Refer to the Practical Nursing Information Guidelines located on the ANC Allied Health website for additional information and admission process.

CERTIFICATES OF PROFICIENCY

  • The Emergency Medical Technician Program provides training to recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies of acutely ill or injured patients in a pre-hospital care setting. Students are required to participate in a 48 hour clinical internship and 24 hour field internship. The course content covers anatomy and physiology, initial patient survey and triage, airway management, oxygen therapy, and treatment of bleeding, shock, cardiac arrest, fractures, spinal injuries and other medical emergencies. Additional areas of study include automated external defibrillation, multi-lumen airways and general pharmacology. The course is designed for anyone interested in working in public safety, including fire, police and ambulance operations. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the National Registry Examination. Students must complete the course with a grade of “C” or above.

  • The Medication Assistant Course at Arkansas Northeastern College combines classroom theory, lab and clinical experiences meeting the requirements of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing for the Medication Assistant-Certified (MA-C) training course. The course includes the role and responsibilities of the MA-C along with the concepts necessary for the safe and effective administration of medications. Supervised clinical experience includes administering medications in a nursing home setting. Students are required to meet College Admission requirements and must have completed at least 1 continuous year of full-time experience as a certified nurse aide (CNA) in the state of Arkansas and currently listed in good standing on the Arkansas Certified Nurse Aid Registry. Students successfully completing course requirements with a “C” or above and a “pass” in the clinical lab and clinical are awarded the certificate of proficiency in Medication Assistant.

  • Successful completion of the Nursing Assistant program qualifies students to work as nursing assistants in hospitals, long term care facilities, rest homes or convalescent homes. The Nursing Assistant Competency Exam offered through the Office of Long-Term Care provides opportunity for those successfully completing the NA program to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Students must also complete a medical terminology course as part of the Nursing Assistant curriculum. This course provides structural analysis, suffixes, pronunciation, pluralization, and spelling of medical terms. Students must complete both courses with a grade of “C” or above. Refer to Nursing Assistant Information Guidelines located in the ANC Allied Health Website for additional information.

  • The Phlebotomy Technician course prepares students for entry level competencies as phlebotomists in hospitals, clinics, blood donor centers, and other health care settings. Students develop skills in performing phlebotomy procedures, specimen collection and processing using proper techniques and universal precautions. The program is also designed to assist students in enhancing their critical thinking abilities and their interpersonal skills. The program includes 58 hours of theory classroom instruction and clinical laboratory experience on campus, with practice arms and tutorials. During the 120-hour Clinical practicum, students work in healthcare settings under the supervision of professional Medical Technologists and/or Phlebotomists to obtain practical, hands-on experience. The Phlebotomy Certificate Program is a one semester or 16-week course. Students successfully completing the course with a “C” or above are awarded a certificate proficiency in Phlebotomy.
