ASSOCIATE DEGREES
The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree will be awarded to students who successfully complete a program of collegiate level work which is primarily designed for direct employment. The program must include a minimum of 15 semester credit hours of general education courses in English/writing, mathematics, social sciences, and computer applications/fundamentals. A minimum of 30-36 semester hours must be in a technical area. An additional component of the program of study should be a technical core of support courses from other related technical disciplines. The curriculum must require demonstrated mastery of skills and knowledge against specified performance standards in a specific area or discipline. Remedial/developmental education courses must be used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements.
11 A.A.S. Degrees:
This two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Education is designed to provide training to students employed or interested in being employed in the child-care or public-school instructional assistance profession. Students will complete a minimum of 60 hours of college credit courses which will educate, train, and provide field experience in early childhood education. The goal of the program is to provide instruction in the basic competencies of early childhood education. The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Education requires successful completion of 61 credit hours with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and a “C” or above in English Composition I, English Composition II, and the math requirement.

The Associate of Arts in Teaching degree will be awarded to students who successfully complete a planned program of collegiate level work that is transferable toward a specified baccalaureate degree in teacher education at each participating Arkansas university. This statewide transfer degree is designed to introduce students to the profession of teaching, to increase the number of teacher candidates, to ease transfer from two- to four-year institutions, and to maximize the credit hours taken at the two-year institution. The degree must include the state minimum general education core (35 semester credit hours) that requires courses in English/writing, the humanities and fine arts, history and the social sciences, mathematics, and the natural sciences. The Associate of Arts in Teaching is designed to align with Arkansas state licensure requirements and consists of 63 semester credit hours. Remedial/developmental education courses must be used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements. In order to receive the A.A.T., students must pass a state-approved assessment of reading, writing, and mathematical skills.

The Associate of General Studies Degree provides flexibility for students with unique needs. Includes transferrable and individual courses, catering to transfer, employment, or enrichment. Choose from Pre-Allied Health, Fine Arts/Performing Arts, Humanities/Social Sciences, or Math/Science. A.G.S. Degree requires 60-66 credits, 2.0 GPA, and "C" or above in English Composition I & II, and Math requirement (College Algebra or Quantitative Reasoning).

The Technical Certificate for Child Development is a one-year certificate that provides the student with the knowledge and skills needed to work with young children and the families they serve. Students gain necessary knowledge about child growth and learning and get hands-on field experiences. Students also learn strategies that will help the childcare professional succeed in the daily routine and requirements of the work place. The technical certificate builds on the certificate of proficiency, and contains courses embedded in the Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education. Students must earn a grade of “C” or above in each required course in order to receive a technical certificate from ANC.
The Technical Certificate in Teaching is a designed pathway for students wanting to pursue a career in teaching elementary education. The student will gain the foundational knowledge and field experiences needed to work with school age children. The Technical Certificate recognizes 15 hours of specific education coursework, as well as 16 hours of general education coursework that is required on the Associate of Arts in Teaching and beyond. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in English Composition I and the math requirement.
CERTIFICADOS DE COMPETENCIA
The Certificate of Proficiency in Early Childhood contains the foundation courses for a person wishing to pursue a career in early childhood (birth through preschool). Students will learn about the Child Development Associate (CDA) application process and the necessary steps to obtain the CDA. Students interested in obtaining the CDA credential through the CDA Council in Washington, D.C., should go to the website, www.cdacouncil.org, for information on all requirements. ANC does not issue the CDA credential. The following courses are required for the Certificate of Proficiency in Early Childhood. Students must earn a grade of “C” or above in each of the required courses in order to receive a certificate of proficiency from ANC. (This series of courses also partially provides the training required to apply for the CDA Credential.)
