TRIO PROGRAMS
The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects.

WHAT IS STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES?
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program designed to promote student academic success. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of the participants and facilitate the process of transition from one level of higher education to the next.
ELIGIBILITY
Student Support Services offers comprehensive academic assistance to eligible college students. Students entering the program need to satisfy one or more of the following criteria:

Be a first generation college student (neither parent or legal guardian graduated from a four-year college or university)

Meet income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education
-
Have a need for academic support services, and show potential and motivation to be successful in college
-
Have a diagnosed physical and/or learning disability
-
U.S. citizen or permanent resident
-
Currently enrolled, or accepted for enrollment at Arkansas Northeastern College
WHAT IS THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY CENTER?
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a program designed to assist adults 19 and older in returning to education - in college, vo-tech, specialized school or GED program.

OUR SERVICES
ACADEMIC ADVISING
Each participant is assigned to a Student Support Services coordinator whose main objective is to assist students throughout their college career at ANC.
Our coordinators provide participants with the information needed to stay on track academically. Because college life can seem overwhelming at times, Student Support Services advisors also offer assistance with financial aid, career decisions, as well as other areas of personal concern.
PEER MENTORING
We know the freshman year experience can seem overwhelming at times. That is why we pair our freshmen with Student Support Services peer mentors who have "been there and done that!"
Our mentors help students who are new to campus get adjusted more quickly. Mentors stay in touch with students by phone, email, and group outings and provide constant encouragement to be the best they can be and gain the most from their college experience at ANC. SSS mentors are chosen by the program staff after exhibiting exceptional leadership qualities.
STUDY SKILLS WORKSHOPS
The Student Support Services (SSS) staff provides various study skills workshops throughout the academic year at different times during each month to accommodate varying participant schedules.
Study skills workshops are intended to motivate participants academically and support both retention and graduation objectives of the program.
TUTORING
Students enrolled in the Student Support Services (SSS) program have access to free tutoring in core curriculum courses. Tutoring sessions are tailored to enhance the student's learning experience and take place on a weekly basis. The program employs both professional and undergraduate tutors who have excelled in their ANC classes and come highly recommended by faculty. Additionally, students have the option of accessing online tutoring.

COLLEGE VISITS & TRANSFER SERVICES
The SSS staff encourages participants to continue their education at a four-year institution. To assist in the transition process, the coordinators arrange college visits at least twice each semester to allow participants to become familiar with different campuses and various college environments.
Participants planning to graduate and/or transfer are assisted with application processes, financial aid processes, and scholarship applications necessary to complete the transfer process.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
SSS sponsors cultural enrichment activities for all participants each semester. Since effective strategies to improve retention rates rely on a holistic approach, attending cultural events is an integral part of the Student Support Services program.
Participants are strongly encouraged to attend events to be exposed to new cultural experiences as well as to promote social contacts with the staff and other participants. Cultural enrichment activities may include attending plays, concerts, and visiting museums.
Be sure to check with the SSS office and sign up early for these activities, as space and tickets are limited.
FINANCIAL LITERACY
The decision to attend college is one that will create many opportunities for you. What lies ahead is full of possibility. Continuing your education is often the first step toward achieving goals pertaining to your career and personal accomplishment, but it can be expensive and full of challenges.
In an effort to help you become confident and financially independent as you continue your education, SSS offers many educational tools to help you maintain healthy financial habits. You will learn how to take control of your money, so that your money will not take control of you.
The financial decisions you make during college might range from handling loose change to managing thousands of dollars. Nevertheless, no matter how much money you are dealing with, determining your finances helps you determine your future. When you know how to manage your money, you will be better prepared to pursue your goals -- and have enough money to make them a reality!

WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH?
The Educational Talent Search (ETS) program at ANC is funded by the U.S. Department of Education for the purpose of increasing the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education. The ETS program works with students in grades 6-12. ETS also encourages individuals who have no completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. All services are provided free of charge to participants who meet the eligibility requirements.
